Spring collections tend to be my absolute favorite. The colors are punchier, the prints more cheery and the silhouettes a touch sexier. Show-stopping gowns aside (that post to come soon), there were plenty of jaw-dropping ready to wear pieces that came down the runway as well.
Prabal Gurung: Prabal Gurung's spring collection was a "celebration of the elegant woman", and celebrate he did! His play on bright colors and daring prints is bold enough to make a statement but subtle enough to rock to the office or on the red carpet. I would bet good money that First Lady Michelle Obama will be wearing quite a few pieces from the selection.
Carolina Herrera: No one does femme elegance quite like Carolina Herrera. Her collection featured languid silhouettes and breezy fabrics, all showcasing Herrera's impeccable tailoring. One of my favorite looks featured a blush colored midi skirt that would make a great investment piece as it transitions wonderfully from day to night.
Victoria Beckham: Our favorite former-Spice Girl's spring collection was decidedly peppier than her previous showings. I particularly loved the geometric cutouts and use of bright colors. No surprise that my pick was this pink ensemble that featured trumpet flare detailing and a crisp white belt.
Derek Lam: Leave it to Derek Lam to make fashion turbans a chic thing again. My Southern roots cheered with glee as gingham looks took center stage in his spring collection. I'm dying for this black and white gingham dress, which toes just the right line between sweet and sexy with the longer hemline and low neckline.
Jason Wu: It's no secret that Jason Wu is one of my all-time favorite designers. Wu used to draw comparison's to Oscar de la Renta's ladylike aesthetic, but it seems that the young designer du jour is moving towards a sexier and edgier clientele. His spring collection highlighted a sleek and fashion-forward woman, from his vampier take on the classic suit to evening wear with a clear sportswear twist. I loved his injection of sparkles into daywear--a beaded tank top paired with a crisp pencil skirt = glam office wear.
